Cleft hand is a rare congenital anomaly of the hand in which there is a form of congenital absence of one or more digits. The etiology of the cleft hand remains unknwon, but Swanson has suggested "failure of formation of parts" due to involve developing hand plate in the seventh week of fetal development. The basic principle governing the management of the cleft hand is the same as other congenital upper extremity anomalies, that is, to provide maximal function and to improve the appearance.
We have been experienced 3 cases of cleft hand and obtained improvement of function and cosmetic problem after the cleft hand were corrected by method of Snow-Littler and Miura-Komada techniques.
This paper reviews the literature on cleft hand, reports our cases, and describes our experience.
